Accessibility
Here at Kirby Campbell Music Tuition, we strongly believe that everyone should be able to access music lessons in an environment that caters to their needs. As a neurodiverse and disability friendly music studio, most of our tutors are Neurodivergent and/ or have a strong understanding of teaching music to Neurodiverse students. Additionally, we consider what others may see as barriers, as the superpowers that allow our students to succeed and thrive in different ways (and keep us on our toes, improving our teaching and pushing us to continue to develop and grow, learning more about what works for different students).

NDIS:
Our lessons can be invoiced for use of NDIS funds as Community Participation (and in some cases, can be billed as other items). We can issue invoices for Plan-Managed and Self-Managed Participants.

Making Accessibility Work:
So rather than just throwing around key words about accessibility, let us tell you what we're doing to make our studio accessible to all.
*Unfortunately, our studio sits on the top level of a building, so at this point, we are not wheelchair accessible, however can offer home visits if required!

Studio is located directly next to multiple bus stops

Regular training and professional development for staff on inclusivity, diversity and accessibility

Low-Sensory ability in all rooms (Can turn off lights, remove distractions, turn off scents)

Options of scents in diffusers for calming, or sensory seeking students

Noise Control - Rooms feature heavy carpeting and drum room contains acoustic panelling to minimise noise flow-over across rooms

Options for students to sit or stand (where possible)

Clear and consistent communication - instructions and information taught in a clear way with consistent check ins to ensure that students are receptive

Breaks in lessons where needed

Limit of people in the room- lessons are taught with just the student and tutor (occasionally a student teacher/ work experience student) in the room

Accessibility aids such as finger covers for guitar

Musical concepts (e.g reading music) taught in bite-sized, practical ways

Limit of theory-only exercises- we prefer to incorporate theory into a way that ensures students can connect this to a practical concept

Regular routine in lesson, and clear expectations stated in lessons to help students know what they are required to do

Lesson timer/ Clocks/ Stopwatches for students to understand how long they have in left

Phones turned on silent to minimise noise

Alternative methods to achieving musical goals - whether this be using a different finger, different position or approaching in a different way
